Provenance

Transferred from the Ordnance Office, Tower of London, March 1962. Forming part of a collection of obsolete and surrendered weapons being assembled at the Technical Stores Depot, Weedon. Authority for transfer being file 57/SA/3354 Ord 8B, dated 14.12.61.

Physical Description

Under-lever, boxlock, the oval frames on each side of the receiver bear scenes of (right) stag and hind, and (left) roebuck and does. The safety on the right side in rear of the rear of the receiver acts on both barrels, and the base plate for the safety on the left side is engraved with a fox seizing a hare. The front tigger is a single set. Bronze cocking indicator pins are located on the breech tang.
An average quality example, fully engraved with above average game scenes and rudimentary scroll work. Pistol grip butt with rounded base, trap for five cartridges with hinged cover on underside of butt; sling loops on underside of butt and bottom of rifle barrel. Chequered fore-end and pistol grip, cheekrest on left side of butt.
The barrels have a full length raised and matted rib, with telescope sight mounts dovetailed into it, as well as a long bead foresight and flip-up single leaf backsight which lies flush in the rib until manually raised with the fingers. The left side of the upper barrel is engraved raised with the fingers. The left side of the upper barrel is engraved SEMPERT & KRIEGHOFF, SUHL. The upper part of the standing breech is stippled to eliminate glare. Barrels numbered 14031, breech 13619 and 49079
