Physical Description

Made in one piece, and closed at the rear by an inward overlapping joint secured by three externally flush rivets. It is shaped to the elbow, expands into a heart-shaped wing at the front, and has a pucker where it curves around the inside of the arm. The upper and lower edges have file-roped inward turns accompanied on the wing by a recessed border. A roped, transverse ridge, bordered above and below by shallow, V-shaped grooves, runs from behind the point of the elbow to the start of the pucker. The recessed borders and the grooves are enclosed by incised lines. At the centre front is a vertically aligned pair of modern, externally flush rivets with modern, iron, rosette washers, which originally retained the internal connecting-leather. At the centre rear is a modern, externally flush rivet which retains a modern, connecting-leather. The centre front has been broken through at at the transverse rib, and subsequently repaired with an internal patch retained by two rivets. The upper and lower edges have been crudely pierced at the front and to the rear of the point of the elbow with small wiring-holes.
