Physical Description

The barrel is stamped MPR under a crown and has bayonet lug. The lock is of Nock's design with brass lockplate and inscribed LISBOA 1791 the flash guard engraved with crowned monogram MPR. Plain stock with brass mounts the ramrod pipes of large diameter to take a heavy rod (now missing) of the type fitting down into the butt. Butt plate engraved with the number 1. Straight trigger and sling swivels present.

Notes

Pedro III and Maria I were joint rulers of Portugal 1777 - 1786. After the King's death in the latter year the Queen ruled alone until 1816 but the monogram used during the period of joint rule continued in use for some years.
