Physical Description

Made in one piece,and closed at the rear by an inward overlapping joint secured by two externally flush rivets. It is shaped to the elbow, expands into a heart-shaped wing at the front, and has a pucker where it curves round the the inside of the arm. The upper and lower 3edges have file-roped inward turns accompanied, on the wing, by recessed borders. A file-roped transverse ridge, bordered above and below by V-shaped grooves, runs from behind the point of the elbow to the start of the pucker. At the centre front is a vertically aligned pair of externally flush rivets, one of which is fitted with a square, external washer. The rivets retain a fragment of the internal connecting-leather. At the centre rear is a further externally flush rivet fitted with a circular, external washer. This rivet retains a fragment of a second internal connecting-leather. The upper and lower edges have been crudely pierced at the front and just behind the point of the elbow with later wiring-holes.
Russet with some bright, but patinated, areas.
