'Brodie Alexander: Manchester, Calcutts Ironworks, Salop'
Contractor the Board of Ordnance supplying many iron guns during the period 1790-1810. Used the incised mark C and sometimes C A B. As well as the foundry in Manchester, Brodie had a London address in Carey Street, Chancery Lane. In 1786 he bought the Calcutts Ironworks from G. Mathews and retained control until 1811. The works were very well equipped, the boring machines being operated by steam power. Alexander died 1811.
