Presumably Old Tower Collections. First registered by Valuation Team when on loan to 257 (Southern) General Hospital RAMC (V), Duke of York's HQ, Kings Road Chelsea, London, Loan L214, 15/11/1990.

Physical Description

General Type Description: Long head, tapering gradually to a tip. The blade has a medial ridge leading into a conical neck. All these parts are metal, and are attached by two equal langets to a stained wooden haft. On of the langets has three pierced studs for the attachment of a pennon.

The wooden haft is of circular section, and is reinforced at the butt by a conical metal shoe. This is attached by a single short langet pinned by a single rivet.

Red and white 'swallow-tail' pennon is attached.

Dimensions: Overall length: 2750 mm (108 in), length of langets: 560 mm (22.5 in) [560 mm outer and 410 mm (16 in) inner], length of head: 320 mm (12.25 in), length of shoe: 160 mm (6.5 in)

Inscriptions and Marks

'....LD' (Enfield?) marked on socket. 12D? stamped on shoe.
