Purchased from the Beriah Botfield collection at Norton Hall, Northamptonshire, with the aid of the National Art Collections Fund, 1942 (Norton Hall No. 362).

Physical Description

Made entirely of steel it consists of seven flanges, surmounted by a domed cap and a finial in the form of an unopened hand, attached to a hollow shaft of decagonal section. The spirally ribbed grip terminates at the upper end in a narrow sunken moulding, at the lower in a disc like cap with a small button. Above the grip is a piercing for a cord.
