Physical Description

The skull is of one piece with a deep roped comb and an escutcheon-shaped plume holder at the rear. At the lower corners are the bases of sprung studs that engaged square holes on the lower bevor to fasten the helmet closed. The vizor has a deep reinforce and a double sight with a flange below pierced with five vertical slots at either side. A pivoted lifting peg at the right activates a locking peg inside. The upper bevor is prow shaped, and pierced with 15 rectangular breaths at the right. At the base is a sprung sliding peg which locks it closed. The lower bevor is fitted with two later (probably 17th century) swivel hooks which fasten it to the upper bevor and skull. The gorget plates at the front and rear are restored. The skull and bevor have numerous original flush lining rivets. The surface is bright, and there is a soldered repair in the top of the comb.
