Physical Description

The lockplate measures 6 in x 1.1 and is rounded with a teat at the rear. Rounded integral pan with bridle and the steel spring has a trefoil finial. Engraved across the tail, GRICE 1761, ahead of the cock, crowned GR and stamped with small crowned broad arrow. Rounded swan-neck cock, with typical double border line engraving.
Stocked to 4.3 in of muzzle, the barrel retained by three pins and the bayonet stud acts as a foresight. There are no provisions for sling swivels. Three brass pipes, the upper trumpet made of two shorter pipes soldered together. Brass stock tip. All brass furniture is reduced size version of Land Pattern, including pipes, trigger guard, sideplate, buttplate and escutcheon. Sling bar is attached to the rear lockscrew and runs forward for 9 in and is held at the front by a screw through the fore-end from the right side. Handrail butt of normal pattern, with raised carving round the lock and tang of standard type. Stamped in rear of the sideplate with initials LR and fleur-de-lys.
The barrel is full round with baluster turning at the breech. Stamped with Government proofmarks, and with a small star over IW
