Physical Description

Steel frame and steel barrel. Blued finish. Wooden chequered grips held together with stud through centre of grip. Both double action and single action. Exposed hammer. Cylinder retaining pin underneath barrel. Front blade sight with fixed rear sight notch milled into top of frame. Two large screws on right side of frame. Loading gate catch on right side of frame. Lanyard loop on base of pistol butt.

Notes

Used by Russian officers, the Belgian-designed Nagant Model 1895 revolver held seven rounds. When cocked, the cylinder moved towards the barrel creating a gas seal, theoretically increasing accuracy and velocity of the bullet. However, reloading was slow due to the individual side loading gate, reducing firepower.
