Physical Description

Single edged, fullered blade. Dark-coloured, textured grips. White metal scabbard, with 2 scabbard loops either side. Sealed pattern attached to hilt. Piece of felt with seal red wax attached, with brown waxed fabric piece with black handwriting on one side and red handwriting on the other side. On the side with black handwriting, 'Sword, Cavalry, Pattern '99, approved 19.10.99'. Also, written is 'L, Convert Cavalry, 77/26/293? Brass tag, stamped 1004. Also attached, a cream-coloured waxy fabric piece with printed and typed lettering. Under 'name', 'SWORD & SCABBARD Pattern 1899, CAVALRY. Sp. 1004, Sp. 1005. Under 'remarks on sample', 'Approved 19.10.1899. L of c. 9880 & 12860, Convd. from Swd. Pattern 1885 Mk. 2.'
