Physical Description

This arm was produced by the Birmingham Small Arms Company for the ammuniition trials at the request of the Ideal Calibre Panel. These investigations, involving cartridges of .256 in, .30 in, .330 in and 7.92 mm calibre, resulted in the .280 in (7 mm) cartridge, then considered to be the 'Optimum Round'. The .330 in experimental rifle employs a 4 groove right hand twist barrel chambered for the BSA .33 in belted cartridge, a sporting round.
Body markings, on the left side, read 'NO.4 RIFLE, .330 CARTRIDGE, M47C 1946, S 0002.'
