Physical Description

Flat lockplate with double engraved line border. Stamped crowned VR behind cock; 1858 [in italics], crowned broad arrow and crown upside down ahead of cock. On left side of butt is painted 160, and an aluminium TOWER LOAN disc is attached by two pins. The ramrod is missing.

On butt: underside stamped crowned L over 16, crowned L over 10; on right side, broad arrow over 1856 within a circle; on left side 152. Butt plate tang stamped 337. Barrel bands stamped: rear, on inside; crowned L over 17. middle, on inside; 1 or 4 M.; on outside crowned L over 8. front,on inside;M crowned B over 12[?] crowned ES
