Physical Description

Designed by Malcolm Cooper, it has the capability of being suppressed with the addition of an extension, which increases the length of the barrel by 15 inches. The supression system designed for this rifle was to suppress flash, smoke and dust disturbance. Without the extension it is not suppressed. To fit the entire suppression system requires the removal of muzzle nut and muzzle brake so that the extension can be fitted, the muzzle brake is not refitted. Without the additional extension the rifle may appear to be suppressed due to the barrel casing, but is in fact not so. This early version of the AW50 was fitted with an aluminium reciever with steel inserts for strength. (J.Henshaw). Due to the requirements of the trials suppression was not called for so the extension was never manufactured (J.Henshaw).
