Probably Tower arsenal. First accessioned on return from loan to 16th Air Defence Regiment (Loan L188), 22/06/1990.

Physical Description

General Type Description: Brass cruciform hilt of 'Roman' form with flattened, oval-sectioned pommel, swollen ribbed grip, and quillons with disc terminals decorated with incised concentric circles. Straight, single-edged blade of wedge section, with a short ricasso, tapering slightly and terminating in a double-edged spear point.

Variations, losses, damage, etc: several nicks in forward edge of blade.

Inscriptions and Marks

On inside of blade, on ricasso: crown over '10'; on main blade, near ricasso, broad arrow over 'WD'.On outside of blade, on ricasso: a crested helmet (the mark of Kirschbaum of Solingen).
