Physical Description

Barrel of standard pattern with breech moulding, stamped with government, proof and viewer's marks and with the name WILLETS on the underside. Lock with semi-boxlock mechanism mounted externally, a flat steel plate extending from behind the scear-spring to beyond the cock providing a second bearing surface for the moving parts. The tumbler is integral with the cock and has a link connecting the main-spring. The tumbler is integral with the cock and has a link connecting the main-spring. The frizzen is fitted with a roller, the spring being flat instead of Vee-shaped. The lockplate bears the name of the maker W. DICK on both inner and outer faces.

Dick held the post of viewer at the Tower from 1780 to 1795.
