Physical Description

Fitted with ring-necked cock. Stocked to 4 1/8 inch of the muzzle. Brass furniture. Steel ramrod. Fore-sight missing. Hole through end of butt, countersunk on left. Another through top left of butt and also butt. Another on stock, between tailpipe and 2nd pipe, countersunk on left. Gouge on right and two holes into top flat behind barrel

Inscriptions and Marks

Barrel stamped on left of breech with crowned GR over Broad Arrow and crown over crossed sceptres. Stamped on right by pan: crown over [?1] (i.e. crown over uncertain numbers, the second probably 1) , and on tang: crown over 2 . Lockplate engraved with royal cypher and TOWER, and stamped with crown over Broad Arrow. Sideplate flat stamped: IG ; crown over P ; [M] (i.e. M but uncertain). Butt stamped on right with Ordnance storekeeper's mark of crown over Broad Arrow over 1805. On left of butt: 33, on top: J . . Underside of butt to right of guard stamped with several uncertain marks, each probably a crown over a number. Ramrod groove: front section (front to rear) stamped: crown over [13], crown over [0] (ie. crown over 13, crown over 0, all numbers uncertain) ; middle section: I VII ; rear section: [16] (i.e. 16 but uncertain). Ramrod stamped: crown; H ; possibly [I] (i.e. I but uncertain)
