Inscriptions and Marks

Barrel stamped on left of breech with crowned GR over Broad Arrow and crown over crossed sceptres, and M[C] (i.e. MC, the C uncertain). Stamped on right by pan: crown over 17, and on tang: crown over 9 . Lockplate engraved with royal cypher and TOWER, and stamped with crown over Broad Arrow. Sideplate flat stamped: J ; also two possible marks, one possibly incorporating a crown. Butt stamped on right with Ordnance storekeeper's mark of crown over Broad Arrow over 1805 . Underside of butt to right of guard stamped twice with crown over [?] (i.e. crown over uncertain number). Ramrod groove: front section (front to rear) stamped: crown over [8] and crown over 8 (i.e. stamped twice crown over 8, the first 8 uncertain) and also a possible stamp above them ; rear section: W . Ramrod stamped: crown and possible indecipherable mark
