Physical Description

Made of thin strips of iron forming a framework enclosing the head, the front portion fashioned as a grotesque mask. A curved iron strip at the top forms a spring to the end of which is attached a brass bell. A pair of asses ears, also of iron, are riveted to the sides.
The neck-band which opens at the back on two hinges and has a staple for the padlock is stamped twice with a shield bearing the arms of Nuremberg. The whole has originally been painted red.
