Physical Description

The lockplate is rounded, of banana form, with pronounced teat at rear. It measures 7 in x 1.25 in. Rounded integral pan with bridle, the steel spring has a trefoil finial. The cock is a rounded swan-neck, and the normal border line engraving is present. Engraved across the tail of the plate is TIPPIN 1746, and ahead of the cock, crowned G.R. Stocked to 4.5 inches of the muzzle, the barrel retained by three pins and the upper sling loop screw. Original wooden ramrod with brass tip. No fore-end cap, the stock finishing with a slight swell. Four barrel-shaped pipes, the brass furniture throughout being of the typical Land Pattern. The swell in the curled trigger. The carving round the lock and sideplate are of the less elaborate form, the so-called 'beaver-tail' of earlier types being done away with. Remains of red wax seal on right. The barrel is of standard form with Government proof marks stamped on top of the breech
