Physical Description

Of short waisted form, with cut-out at the neck, narrow shoulders, a medial ridge drawn down to a deep point, and a deep flange at the waist. The edges of the neck and arm openings and of the waist flange have plain inward turns. The neck and arm openings are bordered by single incised line decoration. The neck is bordered by 13 domed lining rivets, the arm-holes by 12, the 6th from the top on the right missing. Each side of the waist is bordered by 2 domed lining rivets. Each side of the waist flange has a recessed border, within which are 3 domed lining rivets. The top edge of the flange below the main plate has 26 domed lining rivets. At either side of the chest is a plain swivel-hook fitted with an internal square washer, which engages a pierced stud to the outside of it that originally held the shoulder straps from the backplate.
Each tasset is attached to the flange by two hinges. The hasps are trilobated at the bottom, waisted in the middle, and flat-topped. Each hinge attaches to the tasset by a plain swivel-hook attached to an extension of the hasp, which engages a pierced stud on the flange. The hooks face in towards the centre of each tasset. The outside lower hasp is attached to the tasset at the top by a domed sliding rivet with internal octagonal washer; the inside hasp rivet has no slot and no washer. The rivet is made into a diamond pattern by the addition of three similar zoomorphic rivets below it. The trilobated end of each hasp is secured by a domed rivet with, except for the inside hasp on the left tasset, an internal square washer. The rivet on the outside hasp on the right tasset slides in a vertical slot but its equivalent on the left tasset is solid and cannot be determined. The rivet on the trilobated end of each hasp is accompanied by two zoomorphic rivets, one on each lobe.
The tassets are each of one piece, the main edges of which have inward turns accompanied by a recessed border, within which are 24 domed lining rivets on the left tasset and 22 on the right. 8 of the rivets on the left tasset are additionally secured by crude internal square washers, and one by an octagonal washer. The upper right corner of the right tasset is cut obliquely for the passage of the left tasset. Each tasset is embossed to simulate 6 lames, the lowest being deeper than the rest. Each simulated lame is bordered by single incised line decoration. Each lame is bordered at the incised line by a decorative rivet at the centre and at each side, forming 3 columns which terminate at the sixth lame in a circular pattern of 12 rivets with an additional rivet in the centre.
It is externally bright and internally painted black. Each shoulder is pierced with a later suspension hole. The lowest point of the medial ridge has laminated, and the left edge of the waist-flange has slight damage. The slot for the sliding rivet on the right tasset has broken out to the edge. The inward turn at the neck is slightly laminated on the inner side, and a piece is missing from that on the inner side of the right arm-opening.
