Physical Description

It has a raised neck, a medial ridge and a narrow flange at the waist. At either arm is a rivet hole for a mushroom-headed stud for the shoulder straps. The neck and arm edges have plain inward turns. All the edges are bordered by crude lining holes pierced from the inside. At the upper right and upper centre are two proof marks. At either side is a belt hook. The exterior is black from the hammer. The centre of the flange is cracked through.

Inscriptions and Marks

Stamped HS for the maker, helmeted A, two crosses of St George at the neck a large 26 in punch marks on the shoulder, and a large circular mark ABB over a label at the flange.
