Physical Description

This buckler is of the type called in Germany stosschild.


Of circular and deep concave conical form with file-roped turned border and intermediate embossed rib. Below this rib on two sides are placed pairs of rivets for securing the grip (now missing) one pair still retains a suspension ring on the back. Close to the border are a series of brass capped rivets which secure the lining strap. Riveted into the centre is a tapering spike of octagonal section.
