Physical Description

The shield is of steel, circular and slightly convex. The broad border and the central area are chiselled in low relief with arabesques and flowers, gilt on a blck ground. There are four low bosses, one detached, for the internal rings holding the hand grips, and a crescent. The inside, pad and grips are covered with brown velvet, perhaps originally purple, and embroidered in gold thread with four flowers on the lining and a star on the pad.
