Provenance

Physical Description

The steel tool head consists of a cylinder the diameter of which decreases near one end by a concave step and beyond which is a narrow rim. In the same end is a threaded hole and at the opposite end a deep recess, tapered at the mouth and parallel thereafter. In the centre of the base of the recess is a raised circular lug, held in place by two diametrically opposed screws passing through the wall of the cylinder. The lug is pierced by a small central hole.


On the side of the wider portion of the tool is a pair of incised lines.


Condition on acquisition: Fairly extensive surface rusting and pitting.
