Physical Description

The blade is single edged with a long ricasso and an oblique point. The hilt is of gilt brass with a lion head pommel and ivory grips, and a guard flanked by dolphin heads with a crescent at the centre. The scabbard is of brown leather, stamped with bands of flowers and foliage, and fitted with a chape and locket of gilt brass.

Dimensions: The length of blade is 640 mm and the hilt is 132 mm. Weight: The weight is 0.6 kg.

Notes

The scabbard, having been found un-numbered in 1988, was given the number IX.7896 (see under that number for its earlier location history). When recognised as belonging to the present sword XXVIS.120 it was transferred back to form part of that object with the same location, 30/05/02 (PJL).
