Physical Description

Of cast brass. The grip tapers from four spiral volutes at the pommel to a short crossguard that is cusped at its lower edge, slotted to recieve a wide serving-blade, and pierced for three large retaining rivets. Four small panels of ebony and ivory mosaic are set into each face. Three rosettes are pierced and fretted along the centre line of the grip and pommel. Rectangles of steel are set into the narrow edges of the grip.

This was formerly mounted with a partisan blade (as seen in the attached image), and the large rivet holes on the crossguard date from this arrangement. In Dillon's 1909 inventory, it is listed as IX.136. There is no record of when the blade was removed
