Physical Description

Browned barrel with hook breech secured by three slides, the false breech carrying a backsight. A projecting ring is fitted three inches from the muzzle to secure a grenade discharger-cup or possibly a special form of bayonet. The barrel is stamped with Ordnance proof marks and on the underside, with the name of the contractor, B. PARSONS.
Lock with flat lockplate and ring-necked cock, the lockplate engraved with the cypher of King William IV and inscribed CHARLES MANTON-TOWER-1831.
The frizzen-spring is fitted with a roller. Brass mounted stock with scroll trigger-guard

Notes

'Charles Manton' was appointed Master Furbisher at the Tower in 1829. 'Benjamin Parsons' whose name appears on the barrel was a Birmingham barrel maker who received numerous government contracts. (Compare No.XII.194).
