Physical Description

With inscribed and dated blade. The fluted wooden grip,with 8 veritical flutes and possibly of 'Brazil' wood, swells towards the pommel. A copper alloy (brass) foliated plate forms a pommel-cap. The dagger has short spatulate quillons which retain traces of gilding. The central quillon block is rectangular, with a copper alloy band above it, around the base of the grip.
The straight blade has a short ricasso and a saw back edge for part of its length. The ricasso is stamped. on the sides, 'Feare GOD / honory king'. The blade is also engraved with foliage patterns, the date '1631' and on side the Latin motto 'ENSEM SUPER CUSPIDEM IRA'.
