Provenance

The sword was formerly in the Tower collection as XV.404, being transferred to the BM in 1913 and returned in 1954.

Physical Description

The rather narrow blade is single edged for about 2/3rds of its length, being flat sided and ending in a rather long shamshir like point. The iron Indo-muslim hilt has long quillons terminating in rather flat knops. The entire hilt has been covered with silver, lightly washed with gold and decorated with flowers and foliage in a pointille technique. The large disc pommel is flat with a bead border enclosing a radiating sun shape in the centre of which is a small dome and a tapering spike shaped knop.
