Physical Description

The blade is curved and single edged and inscribed with Arabic characters. The hilt is brass with straight spatulate quillons. Pistol type grip, terminating with a loop. The scabbard is wood covered in black leather, tooled with crossed lines. Lockets and chape of brass with sling loops. The chape is plain. The lockets have a raised central ridge.


Dimensions: The length: overall is 848 mm (33.4 in), The blade length: is 705 mm (27.8 in), The scabbard length: is 770 mm (30.3 in) Weight: The weight of the sword is 1.200 kg. The weight of the sword and scabbard is 1.925 kg. _

Inscribed with the kalima, 'La Illah Alla Muhammad rasul Illah'.

Hewitt records this having an inscription which reads 'There is no God but Allah: Mahomet is the prophet of Allah.' From card record: Blade Indian, scabbard and brass mounts probably made in India for a European soldier, early 19th century.
