Formerly in the Tower Collection XV.76. Transferred to The British Museum in 1913, returned to the Tower in 1954.

Physical Description

The blade is straight and double edged, widening towards the tip. Reinforcements with tassel shaped terminals. The langets have similar terminals. The hilt, the langets and the reinforcements are decorated in scroll, foliage, birds and flowers in gold koftgari. Two 'staples' rivet the guard to the langets. The guard and knuckle bow are padded with a red velvet pad, backed on leather, trimmed with red and white and green and black trim. Attached to the knuckle bow with leather straps (one broken). The grip is bound with plaited gold braid.The pommel is flat with a raised edge. The central dome above the pommel terminates in a curved spike.
