Physical Description

The blade is of the usual straight double edged type with the cutting edges chamfered. The iron cross and langets are fully silvered, the upper arms opposite the langets being held in place and covered by a binding of silver wire. The hilt proper is of wood covered by a cast silver sleeve having lines and stars in relief. The pommel consists of two superimposed garooned biconvex discs with beaded collars above and between. At the apex is a cube with the corners cut off with the faces inscribed by a saltaire cross with dots between the arms, a motif that also occurs on the cast hilt.
