Tower arsenal. On loan 67 to Headquarters, Eastern Command, Flagstaff House, Colchester.

Physical Description

It has a shallow cut-out at the neck, shallow arm-openings and a medial keel terminating in a triangular facet just above the waist, which has a rounded flange. The neck, arm-openings and waist-flange have brass borders. The edges are bordered by twenty eight large brass rivets of round-headed form. The rivets are fitted with large cicular internal washers, some of which are missing. At either side of the chest is riveted an mushroom-shaped brass stud, to engage the shoulder-straps of the backplate. Bright and lacquered.

Inscriptions and Marks

the brass edging is stamped D356 at the lower right. The breastplate is stamped at the left with a broad arrow over WD, and crown over 11 over E and a No 4 over a crowned 8. . Inside stamped at the left is an inverted crowned arrow.
