Physical Description

The sword has a curved, single-edged blade that swells out before the point. The back edge near the point is waved. (The shape is very reminiscent of the Chinese glaives that were popular during this period.)The base of the blade is welded to a rough socket with a lapped joint and a hole near the upper end. At the junction of the blade and hilt a quillon of square section is attached that runs horizontal before curving downwards and outwards. On the opposite side is a knucklebow, the end of which is turned down into the socket, although it is not attached to the interior.

Notes

The quality of the blade is higher than that of the hilt. The fact that the hilt is formed as a slightly tapering socket suggests that it may have been made by modifying a staff weapon.
