Physical Description

The banner is of white silk with two horizontal bars in black near the top, the upper broader than the lower. beneath this is an inscription to Hachiman. The banner is suspended by two purple cords with tassels from a horizontal wooden bar. The pole is wooden and lacquered black and red. It terminates in an octagonal gold painted wooden finial.

Dimensions

Dimensions: The length of the shaft is 477 mm, the banner being 444 mm long and 133 mm wide. Weight: The weight is 0.018 kg.

Inscriptions and Marks

The inscription reads 'Hachiman dai bosatsu' (Hachiman, the great Buddhist saint'.
