Physical Description

This rump-length shirt has full length sleeves to which leather gauntlets, their cuffs covered with mail, have been attached. At the throat are two overlapping points which give double protection. The mail is made from split rings.

Notes

Armour of this type was also worn by the bodyguard of the Khedive Ismail between 1863 and 1879. Another example was acquired by General Pitt Rivers in 1874, and is preserved in the Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford, no. 1884.31.21. Dillon number III.559. Another in a private collection in France, 2014.
