Acquired from the Great Exhibition, 1851. Lent to the British Museum in 1914, returned 1954.

Physical Description

The coat is entirely of brass with silver enrichments. The plates over-lap downwards in vertical panels connected by narrow strips of butted mail. From breast level to waist the plates are solid. The coat opens at the front with a deep band of mail encircling the waist, to which is connected a skirt of short mail-connected vertical plates. The plates of the breast area have applied silver flowers and scrolls and there is a double hook and stud fastening in the same metal (1 hook missing).

Dimensions: The height of the armour is 560 mm, the width under the arms is 420 mm. Weight: The weight of the armour including the stand is 7.5 kg.
