Acquired before 1859. Lent to the British Museum in 1914, returned 1954.

Physical Description

The helmet has a shallow rounded skull piece, the lower edge being sunk and the remainder being ribbed. There is a small gilt knop at the apex. Both the sunk band and the panels between the ribs are decorated with small geometric patches in gold laid on a hatched ground. To the lower edge is attached a deep curtain of riveted mail cut away at the front at about the level of the eyes the rest with a straight lower edge.

Dimensions: The diameter of the bowl is 172 mm, the total height being 450 mm. Weight: The weight of the helmet is 1.6 kg.
