Physical Description

Composed of main-plate with two lames above and two below. Main edges have roped inward turns with recessed borders etched with scrolling foliage and containing a series of flush lining rivets retaining original lining-band. The upper-lames are attached by original rivets front and rear and by a modern leather at the centre, the lower lames are articulated by sliding rivets at the rear and by midern leathers at the centre and front. The main plate is decorated with an etched stag seated on a plinth with the motto 'spero in dio' in a banderole above. Exterior is bright with traces of gilding in the foliate border.
