Physical Description

With a two-piece skull joined in a low comb, and one-piece nechguard decorated with a cross in rivets, and a broad, sloping peak also deciorated with a cross in rivets. The whole is in its original blacl from the hammer finish, and filed. The triple-bar faceguard is a working life addition. One of the original cheekpieces survives, detached, with its canvas lining band; it is also decorated with a cross of rivets.

Notes

One of a small series of early pots, including this, IV.179, and one formerly in a private collection, sold Bonham's 28 July 2010, lot 440. These were made without triple bar faceguards, and represent an intermediate form between the early pots and the conventional triple bar types.
