Physical Description

In excavated condition. Hilt consisting of small wheel pommel, short tang. Horizontally recurved quillons with spatulate terminals at right angles to the plane of the blade. With chevron-shaped ecusson and arms of the hilt. The latter terminate in projecting pegs of truncated conical form, which form a simple guard for the back of the hand. The blade has a short ricasso, and then is double-edged, of hexagonal section. It has been broken and welded. The whole is corroded and retains a shiny black patina in parts.
