Transferred from St James's Palace, 1954, given outright to the Tower Armouries by the Royal Collection.

Physical Description

The bowl is chiselled all over with foliage enclosed and between six shapped panels. The borders of the panels and a central cartouche are covered in gold overlay. The lower border is divided into oval and round panels containing a kufic inscription overlaid with silver. At the top is a quadrangular spike with lightly inscised lines (this appears to be a modern replacement). The nasal, fastened by a screw is overalid in gold and terminates in a quatrefoil terminal at the base and an arabesque shaped upper one. There are two plume holders on either side. The aventail is of butted mail with some brass linear decoration, the lower edge formed as long and short tails. The lining is missing.
