Physical Description

Comprising a main plate with one lame above and two below, overlapping upwards and downwards from the main plate.

The main plate is rounded at the front and rear, and slightly narrower at the front. At the centre of the lower edge is a deep, rectangular cutaway, with a flange at either side. At the centre and front, above the cutaway, are rivets for internal leathers. There is no keel.

The upper lame is wide, narrowing to the front. It is articulated by a modern rivet at the front and rear. At the centre is an original, plain iron buckle, whose rivet retains the terminal of the central internal leather. At the edge, a rivet with an internal brass rosette washer retains the base of a strap. Of the three lower lames, the lower two are restorations. The lames are articulated by rivets and by modern internal leathers at the centre and front. The lower edge of the bottom lame is outwardly flanged.

The main edges are inwardly turned, and bordered by iron lining rivets with brass caps, one retaining its brass rosette washer.
