Physical Description

For the left shoulder, comprising a main plate with one lame above and three below, overlapping upwards and downwards from the main plate.
The main plate is rounded at the front and rear, and is slightly narrower at the front. At the centre of the lower edge is a deep, rectangular cutaway, with a flange at either side. There is now keel.
The upper lame is wide, narrowing to the front. It is articulated by a rivet at the front and rear. At the centre, a complete, plain, iron buckle survives.
The three lower lames are plain and gutter-shaped. They are articulated by internal leathers at the centre and front, and rivets at the rear. The leathers terminate on modern rivets on the main plate. There is a line of rivets at the front and rear of the lower lames, and an extra rivet aligned with these above the front and rear of the cutaway on the main plate.
The main edges are inwardly turned, and bordered by lining rivets with brass caps and rosette washers.
