Purchased 15 November 1985. From the Armoury at Littlecote House AP 26.

Physical Description

With a raised neck and narrow flange at the waist. The neck, arm and flange edges are inwardly turned. The neck and arm edges are bordered by single incised lines. At either shoulder is a restored shoulder strap with six plates; the rearmost two lames at the right, and rearmost at the left are original. At either side of the waist is a restored waist strap.


Fragments of the original waist strap survive. Close to the shoulder edge at either side is a pair of rivet holes for another arrangement of shoulder straps. The straps were restored in February 1986.

Inscriptions and Marks

At the neck, stamped 303. Inside the flange is incised XXX, and at the neck III. Painted inside, 38 in orange.
