Physical Description

With a raised neck and narrow flange at the waist. The neck, arm and flange edges are inwardly turned. At either shoulder is a restored shoulder strap, with six plates, the rear three of each being original. At either side of the waist is a restored waist strap.


Each shoulder is pierced with two pairs of rivet holes, for alternative strap attachments. The straps were restored in February 1986. Fragments of the original straps survive.

Inscriptions and Marks

At the neck, stamped, helmeted A for the Armourers' Company of London. Inside, at the waist, four incised lines, and various generations of painted numbers: 1518, 24 and, in orange, 9.
