Physical Description

The lock is of French lock design and is held in place by 3 sidenails, of which rear two are restored. The tail of the lockplate is engraved 'BROOKE' and there is an engraved crown over 'J2R' ahead of the cock.


The full stock is of club shape. There is a ramrod that may be original and a brass butt-plate, 7 7/8 in. long, covers the full sole and narrows to a tang over the heel. The rear ramrod pipe is missing and the fore-end has been restored for 20 1/2 in. from the muzzle.


The barrel has an octagonal breech which develops into 16 facets 5 1/2 in. from the breech. 8 5/8 in. from the muzzle is a baluster after which the barrel is round until the swamp muzzle. The barrel is held in by 2 pins. There are no sights
