Physical Description

The lock is of type 5 design with a dog. It is held in place by 3 sidenails. The centre sidenail carries a ring. The stock is of the type particularly associated with the Littlecote collection. There is a wooden-tipped ramrod that may be original. There is a butt-plate that extends 2 in. along the sole from the heel and 2 in. along the comb. The toe of the butt is damaged and the right side of the butt is carved with a dragon motif. There are 2 domed iron nails in the left of the butt. The barrel has a round cross-section for its entire length and has a slight swamp muzzle. It is held in by 2 pins. There is a slot in the breech for a backsight and there was a foresight which has been filed off flush with the barrel. There is a deeply incised line around the barrel 1/8 in. From the muzzle
