Physical Description

The lock is of type 2 design and is held in place by 3 sidenails


The stock has a fishtail butt and a wooden-tipped ramrod which may be original. There is a butt-plate that covers the full sole plate and 3 1/4 in. of the comb. There is some line decoration on the butt. The toe of the butt has been reparied with resin and there is rot in the lock cavity. 31 in. of the fore-end have been restored.


The barrel has an octagonal breech which extends for 13 1/2 in. where there is a baluster. After this the barrel is round. The barrel is held in place by 3 pins. This barrel was previously on a matchlock as can be seen from the slot in the breech for a flashguard. There is a repair to the barrel in the tang region. There is a notch backsight and there has been a bead foresight
